Senior Systems / Electronics Engineer

Peck Tech currently has a job opening for a Systems / Electronics Engineer to join the product development team in Montreal.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Capable of managing the design process from initial concept through to prototype, bring up, debugging, design for manufacture and leading into full scale production for either in-house or contract manufacture
  • Electronics design, schematic and PCB design for industrial products
  • System design including PCB assemblies, cable assemblies, External component/sensor selection, mounting hardware, labels and enclosures
  • Experience with electrical safety and EMC/EMI standards, pre-compliance testing and working together with compliance test facilities
  • Management of outsourced engineering services
  • Management of digital assets for the system design and documentation for the System Engineering team
  • Coordination with Production for procurement of components for prototype and production builds
  • Coordination with other development team members to meet project goals: quality, schedule and cost of goods
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team or on an individual basis as requirements dictate
  • Other duties as required from time to time

Desired Skills / Tools:

  • Product design using Eagle PCB and OnShape 3D CAD
  • Electronic communications protocols such as RS-232, CAN, I2C and SPI
  • Use of Subversion, Confluence and Jira
  • Documentation using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Bill of materials management using OpenBOM
  • Designing electronic products for harsh environments
  • Working in an Agile development environment
  • Development of Firmware for microcontrollers in C or C++
  • Experience in using Linux in embedded applications


  • Degree qualified in an electronics or embedded systems discipline


  • Minimum of 4 years designing electronic products (for harsh environments will be favored)
  • Building prototype and low volume production products
  • (Asset) Firmware programming for microcontroller or other resource constrained applications


  • Work hours are flexible, 40 hours/week
  • Office work for product design, documentation and programming (Montreal)
  • Some travel maybe required to meet with customers, suppliers and sub-contractors (regional, North America and global)
  • Some work in the field in mining environments to deploy, test and validate prototypes
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to self-manage work schedule and task prioritization
  • Willingness to learn and take on new tasks as the need arises
